Switzerland is a land of railways. Travelling within the country is very much like moving through a Marklin model train set.

In the Easter of 1988 I set out to this fascinating country with my son, Dom. Flying to Berne from Gatwick our aim was to travel on as many varied aspects of the Swiss rail system that we could, ascend the Jungfrau by rail, and to experience at least part of the Glacier Express.

With luck I would be able to take some decent photos as I was using my Hasselblad with 6cm sq colour negative film. Sadly for much of the time it was drab, dull and snowing, which was great for the kids, but bad for photography. We did get some sun though on the day we went to the Jungfrau Joch...it looks superb in the photos of that location.

These photographs are here to help you compile your collection of Swiss rail imagery, particularly if like me you had bad weather, and this prevented you from succeeding in the way you had hoped, and you missed out some key locations. Most of these images should print out to at least 5in by 7in, with some going to 10in by 8in. Looking at them now brings back wonderful memories of a very clean country with piles of white clean snow for the children to play in. Of memories of trains of many gauges, of rack and pinion railways, of red trains seen against pure white snow. ...tremendous.

This may be Interlaken

These could be on the line to Zermatt...........1.............2...............3...................4..........these must also be somewhere around here too...........5..............6................7.........8     This scene in blinding snow....it was so quiet as the snow laid was on a line out of Zermatt...I think, at a summit. with a restaurant close by, could it be Andermatt

These were taken on the way back from Jungfrau Joch, as you can see the sun is out, the snow is white and the sky is blue ............1................2....................3.....................4....................5..............6......
